The purpose of the Giving Tree is to help families and children of Birney school during the holiday season. Our tree is filled with ornaments ranging from $5-$25 and listing stores such as Target, Toys-R-Us, Ralphs, etc. Generous individuals, families, or groups in the community can fulfill the wish on an ornament by bringing gift cards directly to Principal Amanda Hammond Williams. Contact Community Association member Marcia Sorini at (619) 379-6468 with questions or to coordinate pickup/delivery of gifts cards.

Lights in the Heights
Time to get decorating… which home, business, or block will win this year? Winners are understandably proud: last year’s Best Business winner, Inner Balance Institute, displayed their certificate all year. Judging will be Tuesday night, December 16, so have all your lights and decorations up and your garage door closed so we can get a good photo. We drive every street in UH and will definitely vote on Best House, Business and Block. Other categories are fluid and based on your creativity. Winners will be posted with photos first on Facebook and later in the February UHCA News.
Ring in 2015 Roaring 20s-style
The Lafayette Hotel, Swim Club & Bungalows presents…ON WITH THE SHOW. Welcome to YESTERDAY/TODAY: a celebration of the past and present, the vintage and the contemporary. Come ring in the new year with retro allure and modern technology honoring the roaring 20s with a Great Gatsby-themed party. Use code COMMUNITY to receive 12% off the price of admission.
ON WITH THE SHOW welcomes you with a carnival spectacle as you walk through the doors of our historic landmark hotel into THE CITY WITHIN A CITY. If you can find it, a SPEAKEASY offers a 4-course dinner and craft prohibition cocktails amidst a darkened, mysterious environment accentuated by sultry lounge singers.
Underground, the legendary Mississippi Ballroom turns into THE COTTON CLUB, a rebellious, jazzy dance club iconic to the Harlem Renaissance that was once a haven for celebrities in the 1920s. Fun and lighthearted Jazz music twisted with upbeat electronic beats energize you throughout your entrance into 2015.
Additional details and room packages can be found on the event’s Facebook page.
