*** OUR NOVEMBER COMMUNITY MEETING FEATURES STATE SENATOR MARTY BLOCK. AND DON’T FORGET TO PICK AN ORNAMENT FROM THE BIRNEY GIVING TREE WHILE YOU’RE THERE! ***
By Carol Neidenberg
At the October UHCA meeting, 115 residents and business & property owners from throughout University Heights came to hear an excellent presentation about the proposed community plan updates. The attendance and questions, we believe, represented the interest in this topic.
Each eligible individual (defined by UHCA’s ByLaws) was given a ballot about bonus densities and heights. With 99 responses to the 15 questions, the vote was strongly against the proposed bonus densities for new construction. This was nearly equally reflected from residents on both sides of Park Blvd and non-voting residents’ survey responses included.
The last two questions of the survey asked about preferences to stay in the SD
Police Western Division and being in one planning group. The total responses were telling: stay in the Western Division and Overwhelming support for one city planning group and against bonus densities let all of UH be in one planning group.
The response for the planning group was overwhelming: 88.9% asked to be in Uptown Planners and not split University Heights at the east side of Park Blvd.
UHCA Board members followed up in statements at the Uptown Planners meeting and with a meeting with the city’s Planning Department. Your vote was heard loud and clear. Let’s continue advocating for the city to modify their proposed density in the more residential areas and to change their policy and re-unite University Heights into one planning group. The time has come to listen to the community wishes and make the recommendations that you have been asking for.
