San Diego Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer, City Council President Sherri Lightner and City Council Member Lorie Zapf announced a series of actions the city will take to reduce water usage and promote conservation. These actions came in response to CA Governor Jerry Brown’s executive order mandating water conversation to combat the current drought.

Actions announced by local officials include:
* Directing the city’s Public Utilities Department to strengthen enforcement of water waste regulations.
* Reviewing options to reduce outdoor irrigation at parks, one of city government’s largest areas of water consumption.
* Halting the use of potable water to irrigate turf-landscaped medians throughout the city.
* Restarting the Turf: Replacement Rebate Program to encourage residents to replace their water inefficient turf with native and/or drought tolerant landscaping.
