The Birney Elementary School Auditorium has been repaired, and we’ll be back on Thursday, September 5 at 6:30 pm for our September community meeting. (The arson fire in January 2012 that closed the auditorium put the space out of commission for the school and the groups that use the facility for the past 18 months.)
Fresh off the very successful UH125 anniversary celebration, we’re looking forward to picking back up with the questions and concerns brought up by the community in our previous meetings. Join us for an update on the progress, as well as our plans to continue pursuing the issues that are important to the University Heights community, including:
• Washington Street corridor – sidewalks, crosswalks, trash, weeds
• Identification of UH boundaries and labeling on city maps, etc.
• Unification of UH under one planning group
• Helicopter noise
• Lack of sufficient street lighting
• Dog waste
• Better bike infrastructure
UHCA would like to thank the San Diego Unified School District Office of Education for allowing us to use their facility for the past 18 months. Also, if you missed the historic photo exhibit at the UH125 event, the fascinating images of long-gone Normal School, postcards of Mission Cliff Gardens, and UH homes will be on view courtesy of the Special Collections & University Archives, SDSU Library & Information Access.
