NOTE: DUE TO THE ARRIVAL OF THE FIRST THURSDAY IN SEPTEMBER RIGHT BEFORE THE LABOR DAY HOLIDAY WEEKEND, THE MONTHLY UHCA COMMUNITY MEETING HAS BEEN MOVED TO THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 8.

Following the events of 9/11/2001, a group of friends photographed various images of patriotism seen around San Diego County. The collection of photos grew to over 400 and a newly formed organization, Flags Across the Nation, insured that these images would not be forgotten. Twenty were enlarged, framed, and displayed at the San Diego County Administration building.

Flags Across the Nation is a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization that promotes patriotism through the arts. Current projects include Letters to the Troops, Art Cards by Vets and Art for Veterans, and free art classes offered to vets in Charlotte, N.C. The art these veterans create is displayed at the Annual Freedom Exhibit in Matthews, N.C.

We are fortunate to have some of the photos on display at our September meeting. They have been loaned to UHCA by one of our members, Cait Casey, who took the very first photograph in University Heights. Thank you, Cait, for sharing these touching remembrances that brought our nation together!
