Celebrate 125 Years of UH on Saturday, August 10th

JOIN THE UH125 FESTIVITIES IN TROLLEY BARN PARK

University Heights is celebrating its 1888 beginnings in and around Trolly Barn Park on August 10th from 9 am – 4 pm with a series of fun-filled community events, raffles, music and other activities. Special thanks to Council President Todd Gloria for agreeing to be our Honorary Chair and sponsor for this milestone anniversary bash.

Celebrating the Victorian times through today, activities for all ages will include:
Walk/Bike Tour of historical sites and homes near to the park. Our appreciation goes to SOHO for their invaluable assistance.
Trolley-like bus touring the community guided by a costumed and engaging docent.
1935 replica trolley car alongside the park brought by the SD Electric Railway Association.
The Dragon Dance provided by the Buddhist Temple members.
Period costumed greeters. Thanks to the SD Costume Guild.
Drawings and essays from local students from Birney Elementary. Thanks to the teachers, parents and students for participating.
Walk-about characters from the Sophia Isadora Academy of Circus Arts.
Bike scavenger hunt.
Music by local musicians.
Fun & trendy merchandise like hats, t-shirts and hand fans.

17th Annual Summer in the Park Concert Series is Here

The Summer in the Park concerts are here and will continue every Friday at 6 pm in Trolley Barn Park through August 2nd. In addition to live music, Friends of the UH Library Book Sales offer many titles at low prices, and Mrs. Frostie is back with her ice cream delights. Sponsored by the University Heights Community Development Corp. (UHCDC), with the financial support of its many co-sponsors and community donors, the 17th Annual Free Concert Series is five-fun-filled Friday evenings. Though we’re looking into applying for grants, contributions are welcome. We now have a 501(c)(3) tax exemption, so your 2013 donations may be tax-deductible. Join your neighbors in planning, supporting and celebrating this landmark anniversary. Learn more about planned activities to celebrate UH from the Victorian times through today, as well as how you can get involved.

 

Join the Independence from Hunger Campaign, July 2-9

Help our community collect canned goods and non-perishable items for the Mama’s Kitchen Independence from Hunger campaign, July 2-9. The campaign goal is to collect 100 barrels of food to supplement the nutrition of low-income people living with HIV/AIDS. A collection receptacle is located at 4422 Louisiana Street just outside the gate. Donations will be collected throughout the day to ensure they make it to Mama’s Kitchen. Thank you for your community support!

For those Trolley Barn Concert fans, the season is almost here. The Summer in the Park concerts begin on Friday, July 5 with Rodello’s Machine, an Acoustic Folk/Rock Band.
